The project is based on Paul Gilligan's syndicated comic strip which focuses on a dog named Poncho, who hangs out with his canine friends at the Pooch Cafe. Here's how the studio described this neighborhood establishment.
"A neighborhood hangout where dogs can be dogs - comparing notes on such weighty issues as avoiding baths, zebra-flavored kibble, and the construction of a giant catapult with which to hurl all the Earthʼs cats into the Sun."
Here's what Sony Pictures Animation president Michelle Raimo had to say about Kelly Asbury joining the project.
"Kellyʼs wit and cinematic sensibility pairs wonderfully with the irreverent characters and wry comedy in the Pooch Cafe comic strip. Weʼve been looking for something to do with Kelly, and this was a perfect match."
Gil Netter, Bridget McMeel, and John Glynn are executive producing Pooch Cafe. No production schedule was released.
