So far, fan reaction to the new Power Rangers movie has been mixed. Some love what they are seeing, and others aren't quite sure what to make of it just yet. While a trailer arrived this past October, none of the Power Rangers were seen in action. And we caught no glimpse of some of the more popular secondary characters. That all changes today with a first look at the new Alpha 5.

Yes, Alpha 5 has gotten a modern day reboot. He is no longer the goofy robot we remember from the mid-90s. IGN brings us this reveal in concept art. And it's always hard to tell how fans will ever react to this stuff.

In the Power Rangers movie, which arrives from Lionsgate to kick of the spring 2017 movie season, Zordon and the Power Rangers robot assistant Alpha 5 will have a more modern and organic feel. Gone is the 50s sci-fi aesthetic that made Alpha 5 so charming. But perhaps he'll have a better personality this time around.

The original bright poppy colors have been traded for darker, deeper shades of red and blue. But the usually cheery Bill Hader will be giving Alpha 5 his voice. The SNL alum signed on earlier in the year to take on the role. Last year, he also helped bring now-iconic ball droid BB-8 to life in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, creating the digital side to that little robot's voice. Hader is joined by Bryan Cranston as Zordon and Elizabeth Banks as the main villain Rita Repulsa.

The new Power Rangers follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove - and the world - is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it's too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

Power Rangers hits theaters March 24, 2017. So far. we've gotten to see all the new Power Rangers costumes, but we haven't seen them in battle. We have gotten a look at the new Zords, albeit only in toy for. And the Power Rangers coins were shown off at this past year's Comic-Con. A second trailer is expected closer to the end of the year as we head into December. For now, take a look at the new Alpha 5 design.
