Rita Repulsa is here! And she's pretty repulsive. Elizabeth Banks is turning to the dark side in the all-new big screen reboot of the Power Rangers, which began shooting in late February. Today, People has our first look at this wild, bright green bad girl. And she's definitely gotten an upgrade in armor since her TV days. About taking on the role, Elizabeth Banks had this to say.

"I've never played a villain before. [I'm looking forward to] world domination - and being unpredictable as a character."

Rita Repulsa will be more menacing in the new Power Rangers movie than she ever was on the TV show, bringing this latest update to a slightly darker world and giving it some edge. This is a character that Elizabeth Banks just couldn't wait to inhabit. And the villain's colorful style will certainly remind you of her pink-hued Hunger Games character Effie Trinket.

Rita Repulsa is much more reptilian in appearance, though. And you never can tell what she might do next. Power Rangers is based on the hit show from the 90s, which has never been off the small screen in some incarnation. The story revolves around five high schoolers who become superheroes known as the Blue, Yellow, Black, Pink and Red Rangers. They must save earth from Rita Repulsa. Elizabeth Banks reveals that it was her younger brother who first drew her into this world. She exclaims the following, joking.

"It might be his favorite show of all time."

Rita Repulsa's new look is a total reimagining of the original character. It is purposely more modern and meant to be more edgy. This time around, the villain will have more of a connection to the Power Rangers. And audiences will get to see a more in-depth backstory for the character. Also starring in the movie are Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Becky G as the Yellow Ranger and Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger. Power Rangers is flying into theaters March 24, 2017.
