Even though a director hasn't been attached yet, Lionsgate has handed out a July 22, 2016 release date for their Power Rangers reboot. The project will go up against Warner Bros.' Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur on that date, which is sandwiched between two highly-anticipated projects, Universal's Untitled Jason Bourne Sequel on July 15, 2016 and 20th Century Fox's Planet of the Apes 3 on July 29, 2016.

We reported last month that Roberto Orci signed on to executive produce and develop the story with screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class). That story revealed this project will be a complete reboot, focusing on a new group of high school kids who become the Power Rangers, as they learn to harness their new powers while saving the world from extraterrestrial threats.

However, Roberto Orci revealed later that month that the movie will be somehow tied into the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers TV series, with some form of continuity he would not elaborate on.

Haim Saban, who created the original franchise, will produce alongside Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur.
