For the third consecutive day, Lionsgate has revealed a new member of the Power Rangers team, with RJ Cyler signing on to play Billy, the Blue Ranger. The announcement was made on the Power Rangers Instagram account, with RJ Cyler joining Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger) and Ludi Lin (Black Ranger). With today's casting, there is just one more Ranger left to be cast, who, according to an earlier report, is named Trini.

Back in August, a report surfaced that revealed character details for all of the individual Power Rangers members. Billy is described as "whip-smart and sweet," but he also has no filter, creating social awkwardness at school since he doesn't know how to show emotions or react to sarcasm. He also suffers from OCD, described as "a constant challenge," and he eventually "gravitates towards Jason," the Red Ranger, since he has never had any friends. Another report from June revealed that Billy and Jason are texting each other to go searching for what Billy thinks is a T-rex fossil that he found on Google Earth.

The last main character is Trini, the perpetual "new girl" in town since her parents are constantly moving for their work. She is described as "mysterious and extremely bright, self-sufficient, contemplative, but always observant." While she owns up to her "loner" status, she really wants to find her own group of friends, even though she will never admit it to anyone, including herself. The June report claims that we first meet Trini while doing yoga in the middle of the desert.

There have also been a number of rumors about the Power Rangers villain, with one report claiming that Rita Repulsa from the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers TV show will be the primary antagonist, while a more recent report claims that the villain will be one of Replusa's underlings, Scorpina. The latest rumor also claims that the story will follow the continuity of the latest TV incarnation, Power Rangers Dino Charge. Still, no plot details have been confirmed yet, but perhaps we'll get the first official synopsis after the main cast has been rounded out.

Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is directing from a script by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Production is scheduled to begin in January 2016, so we should get confirmation regarding the rest of the cast and the villain soon. RJ Cyler made his feature debut in 2013's Second Chances, which he followed up with this year's indie hit Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. He is currently filming War Machine alongside Brad Pitt, and he also stars in HBO's upcoming comedy series Vice Principals.
