Some good news, bad news. The good news is, we have every reason to believe a new Power Rangers movie is going to happen, the bad news is, it's not going to include the cast from the most recent 2017 movie. This was, more or less, to be expected, given that the most recent live-action reboot didn't live up to expectations critically or commercially. But now, star Dacre Montgomery has revealed he and the rest of the cast won't be suiting back up for the next installment, whatever shape it ultimately takes.

Dacre Montgomery was recently doing an AMA on Reddit in honor of Stranger Things season 3. During the course of the fan questions, the actor was asked about the possibility of a new Power Rangers movie. While Montgomery is fairly sure a new entry is in the works, and he's right (more on that in a minute), he's quick to explain that it just won't involve the same people in the suits next time around. Here's what he had to say about it.

"I think there is a [Power Rangers] movie in the works but it's not with me and the cast. So yes [a new Power Rangers movie will happen], but not with us."

Quite a few fans enjoyed what director Dean Israelite did with 2017's Power Rangers. But, unfortunately, it just didn't work for quite a few critics, and it certainly didn't work out from a commercial standpoint for Lionsgate. Working from a reported $100 million production budget (not including hefty marketing costs), the movie grossed just $142 million globally, which means the studio took a heavy loss. To make matters worse, it boasts just a 50 percent critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Granted, the 65 percent audience score is better, but that's not enough to make the studio think it was just some sort of mismarketed, possible gold mine.

As for this new movie, we first heard back in August 2018 that Hasbro, who now controls the franchise, was looking to reboot once again. At the time, it wasn't totally clear what direction they were going to take things, but Hasbro has set up their own studio division to turn their properties into movies and TV shows. When last we heard, Hasbro was speaking with Paramount Pictures about a possible new movie, which signaled strongly that they would be doing some sort of reboot as opposed to a sequel. That was back in February and we haven't heard much of anything since. Though. San Diego Comic-Con is happening next week. That might be the perfect place to make some sort of splashy announcement.

Dacre Montgomery played Jason, the Red Ranger, in the reboot. The rest of the cast included Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger), R.J. Cyler (Billy/Blue Ranger), Ludi Lin (Zack/Black Ranger) and Becky G (Trini/Yellow Ranger), with Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as Zordon.
