Just one week after Lionsgate found its Blue Ranger for the highly-anticipated Power Rangers reboot, the studio announces that the Yellow Ranger has been cast. Actress-singer Becky G. was revealed as the Yellow Ranger through the official Power Rangers Instagram page. She joins Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger) and RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger) in the growing cast.

A report from Collider surfaced earlier this week, claiming the character names for all of the Power Rangers have been changed. Dacre Montgomery is playing Callum Oliver (Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus), Naomi Scott is playing Priya Patel (The Pink Ranger/Pterodactyl), RJ Cyler is playing Brian Olson (The Blue Ranger/Triceratops), Ludi Lin is playing Oscar Fernandez (The Black Ranger/Mastodon) and the latest addition, Becky G., is playing Teyana Jones (The Yellow Ranger/Sabre-tooth Tiger). There was a report that surfaced in August which said that the characters would have the same names as the original TV series, but it seems that has all changed. None of these reports have been confirmed.

While the names are different, each of the character's animal war machines known as Zords will remain the same. This latest report says that the original costumes may at least make an appearance. The site claims that the original costumes may appear during the opening scene, described as a massive battle where the forces of good and evil collide. Or they could come during a flashback scene. It was also revealed that Haim Saban, who created these iconic characters, is currently working on the script with director Dean Israelite, but it isn't known how extensive these changes may or may not be.

Since that report was never confirmed, it isn't known if any of those details are accurate. It is believed that the Yellow Ranger is the final ranger, but there are still villains left to be cast. An earlier report claimed the Power Rangers reboot main villain is be Rita Repulsa from the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers TV show. That was contradicted by a more recent report claiming that the villain will be one of Replusa's underlings, Scorpina. The latest rumor also claims that the story will follow the continuity of the latest TV incarnation Power Rangers Dino Charge.

Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is directing from a script by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Production is scheduled to begin in January 2016, so we should get confirmation regarding the rest of the cast and the villain soon. Becky G. most recently appeared in two episodes of the Fox hit series Empire, and her music has appeared in Hotel Transylvania, The Smurfs, Austin & Ally.
