I Am Number Four director D.J. Caruso revealed on his Twitter account that he has completed a deal to direct the adaptation Preacher for Columbia Pictures.

Here's what he had to say.

"My deal just closed on Preacher. Going back to the dark side and pretty fucking pumped!"

Sam Mendes was originally attached to direct, until he left the project to direct James Bond 23. We also reported back in September that Darren Aronofsky was a contender to direct Preacher, although it seems a deal was never made.

John August wrote the screenplay, which is adapted from the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon graphic novel. The story centers on a Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who becomes possessed by a supernatural entity that is have angel and half demon. After this entity forces him to murder his entire congregation, he goes on a journey to literally find God, who has abandoned his place in heaven.

Neal H. Moritz will produce Preacher with Jason Netter. No production schedule has been revealed yet.
