Prior to the epic Pride and Prejudice and Zombies panel planned for Comic Con next Saturday, which promises to turn Hall H into a 19th Century blood bath, EW has released 4 very sexy, very gory photos from the thriller. This generation gets a Jane Austen interpretation like non-other before it, as Seth Grahame-Smith's mash-up novel prepares to hit the big screen just in time for Valentine's Day this February. Here, we get to meet headstrong Elizabeth Bennet and her zombie killing, corset wearing sisters!
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies tells the classic love story with an apocalyptic twist sure to scare anyone into fits of panic, followed by a series of hot flashes. Lily James takes on the role of Lizzy, who has become romantically entangled with Mr. Darcy, played by Sam Riley. This fling is interrupted by a zombie virus, with the 'sorry stricken' (as the walkers are called in the book) rising from the grave to cause gory havoc. The victims of this mysterious plague have been infected for the past 70 years, and it's up to Lizzy, her sisters, and her lover to stop the madness!
Burr Steers, perhaps best known for Igby Goes Down, directs this dramatic thriller, which doesn't play the camp aspect for laughs. This is serious business, claims the ring leader of this horror show. He goes onto explain more about the story and its tone.
"The idea was that it was Pride and Prejudice set in this alternate world and then for everyone to play it straight. The movie's big wink is that there is no big wink."
Seth Grahame-Smith's last novel to get the big screen treatment was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which took its action in a decidedly different direction. Lily James wants to assure everyone that this new adventure is not 'camp'. The actress goes onto say the following.
"Rather than knitting and crocheting, they're polishing muskets. She's the most badass zombie slayer there is."
Take a look at Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and it's blood-soaked heroines. The movie will be making its Comic-Con debut on Saturday, July 11 at 12:15 in Hall H, where cast members Lily James, Sam Riley, Bella Heathcote, Douglas Booth, Jack Huston and Matt Smith will regale audiences with their tales of zombie hunting.
