Back in August, Fox confirmed that their beloved series Prison Break is coming back for a new event series, with original stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell returning as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. In January, Fox president Dana Walden teased that "some of the iconic characters" will be back, but he didn't mention any specific characters that would return. Today, Deadline reports that Sarah Wayne Callies has signed on to return as Dr. Sara Tancredi, with other casting additions being finalized.

The site reveals that Robert Knepper (T-Bag), Amaury Nolasco (Fernando) and Rockmond Dunbar (C-Note) are finalizing their deals to return, but nothing is official quite yet. During the TCA winter tour in January, Dana Walden said the series is "a bit of a sequel," taking place several years after the last season of the show. Prison Break ran for four seasons between 2005 and 2009, with the series concluding with the straight-to-video movie Prison Break: The Final Break, where Wentworth Miller's Michael Scofield died of a brain tumor.

While details of Michael Scofield's resurrection have not yet been revealed, series creator Paul Scheuring, who left the show after its second season, reportedly pitched a "logical and believable explanation" of how Michael Scofield is still alive, which won't completely ignore the Prison Break: The Final Break TV movie. As for Sarah Wayne Callies' Dr. Sara Tancredi, she was also brought back from the dead during the series' original run. Her character's decapitated head was shown in a box early on in the third season, but she ended up coming back for the fourth and final season.

This report reveals that Sara has been trying to move on with her life following Michael's death, raising her and Michael's child with her new husband, played by Mark Feuerstein. After she learns that Michael may be alive, she teams up with Lincoln to plan the show's biggest escape ever. Paul Scheuring is serving as writer, executive producer and showrunner of the event series, with Neal H. Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Olmstead returning to executive produce. Production is scheduled to begin in Vancouver next month.

After Prison Break went off the air in 2009, Sarah Wayne Callies went on to star in the hit AMC zombie series The Walking Dead, portraying Lori Grimes throughout the first three seasons. She has also starred in feature films such as Into the Storm, Pay the Ghost and The Other Side of the Door, which opened in theaters last weekend. She currently stars in USA Network's hit series Colony, which has already been picked up for a second season. Her involvement with Prison Break won't affect her work on Colony, since Prison Break is a limited series. Are you excited to see Dr. Sara Tancredi return in Prison Break?
