When I recently spoke with Lauren Graham for Evan Almighty, she told us about a new drama she was staring in with Greg Kinnear. Well, Variety has now confirmed that Marc Abraham is directing that film, entitled Flash of Genius. It will be the producer's first directorial project.

The film tells the story of a man named Robert Kearns (Kinnear) who invented the intermittent windshield wiper. Feeling that the major car manufacturers have stolen his patent, he decides to sue them. He ends up spending half his life in court. Graham will play his wife.

The film is based on John Seabrook's New Yorker article. Phillip Railsback, Scott Frank and Abraham have all taken a crack at the screenplay. Abraham stated, "I bought the rights eight years ago and always hoped to direct it. This is a David vs. Goliath story, but I liked the fact that what Kearns fought for was almost whimsical and (it shows) the high cost someone can pay for refusing to compromise their dignity."

Shooting takes place this July in Toronto.
