Screenwriter Michael Green (Green Lantern) has signed on to rewrite the script for Prometheus 2. Multiple sources are also claiming that this follow-up is the mysterious Ridley Scott project that was given a March 4, 2016 release date by 20th Century Fox last week.

Michael Green will rewrite the original script by Jack Paglen (Transcendence), who signed on back in June to write the original draft. Prometheus was essentially an unofficial prequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 classic Alien. The sequel that Michael Green is writing is said have a more terrifying tone than 2012's Prometheus. The follow-up is also expected to included multiple versions of the android David, played by Michael Fassbender. It isn't known yet if the studio plans to go with a different title in place of Prometheus 2.

The original Prometheus starred Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw, an archaeologist tasked with finding the Engineers, aliens who were responsible for the creation of humanity.

Michael Green is currently polishing the script for Ridley Scott's Untitled Blade Runner Project, although it is said that Ridley Scott will make Prometheus 2 next, with production slated to begin this fall after the director delivers his upcoming Exodus to 20th Century Fox.

Michael Green's other credits include the upcoming Gods and Kings and The Flash. He previously wrote for TV shows such as Smallville and Heroes.
