Puss in Boots: The Last Wish keeps smashing the box office. The sequel to the individual adventure of the mythical Shrek character played by Antonio Banderas is one of the great successes of recent months. After modifying and updating its animation style, and delivering a story full of action, fun, emotion and even drama, the franchise was revived by the heroic cat and the success continues, according to ScreenRant.

Despite already being released via streaming, the film maintains a good place at the domestic box office, taking the third spot, even in the face of the huge wave of competition that has come in recent days. Puss in Boots 2 will climb this weekend from fifth to third place, surpassed only by Marvel Studios' newest release Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the ever-present, Avatar: The Way of Water.

Other strong opponents the film managed to beat was Magic Mike's Last Dance, which had a great opening last weekend, and Knock at the Cabin. M. Night Shyamalan's latest project managed to top The Way of Water on its first weekend in theaters along with sports comedy 80 for Brady. So it's an outstanding achievement for the animated sequel to climb the ranks in this context, which also includes the re-release of Titanic.

Meanwhile, Ant-Man 3 seems to be seeing the fallout from some of the criticism, as it's projected to gross a total of $225 million, less than what was expected in advance of its release. However, the box office numbers will still be considered a success for the threequel. Right now, the movie is the second project from the MCU to receive a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes.
