Puss in Boots: The Last Wish brings us back to the fantasy worlds, where our favorite cat is living a fearless life as always! But it looks like there are terrible side effects to being so brave. The trailer gives a hilarious setup, showing that Puss has finally reached the end of his tether. Here’s the official synopsis from Peacock Kids.

For the first time in more than a decade, DreamWorks Animation presents a new adventure in the Shrek universe as daring outlaw Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet.

This legendary adventure brings back Antonio Banderas, who will be reprising his role as Puss. Returning with him will be Salma Hayek as Kitty Soft Paws, who was introduced in the 2011 film as Puss’s love interest and soft rival. Joining the two will be Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), who will be introduced as Perro, the happy-go-lucky pup! As the trio embarks on their adventure through the Black Forest, they will be tailed by Goldilocks, played by Florence Pugh (Black Widow), and the Three Bears Crime Family. Also on the run and after Puss and the gang will be “Big” Jack Horner, played by John Mulaney (Big Mouth), and The Big Bad Wolf, played by Wagner Moura (Narcos).

Universal Pictures

Puss in Boots was a longtime name in the Shrek franchise. Premiering in the 2004 sequel, Shrek 2, Puss in Boots practically stole the show with his top personality and cuteness! The character soon became a favorite among the hilarious cast and joined up with Shrek and Donkey on their adventures in both Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third, as well as making a hilarious appearance in Shrek Forever After. The character’s popularity scored him a spinoff film in 2011, where we learn of his dark past and previous friendship with Humpty Dumpty. In 2012 he returned for the direct to DVD short film Puss in Boots: The Three Diablos, which was a short that was released as a special feature for the DVD of Puss in Boots. But the cat still wasn’t done! In 2015, the character returned in The Adventures of Puss in Boots, an original Netflix series that ran for 77 episodes!

The sequel has been long in the works, as far back as 2012 when director Chris Miller stated that he would love to return for another shot with the characters. But due to multiple reasons, corporate changes, rewrites, pushbacks, the film kept finding itself in the crossfire. The project has swapped directors, but is now in the hands of Joel Crawford and Mark Swift, who previously helmed The Croods: A New Age.

It’s clear that Dreamworks isn’t done with this charming hero, and who can blame them? It’s not only easy, but fun to see what kinds of trouble he can get into! From the looks of this trailer, it feels like this will bring the same amount of charisma and fun that we can always expect from the famous feline hero!
