After Sacha Baron Cohen's departure in July, the Untitled Freddie Mercury Biopic has yet to find an actor to portray legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. Today we have word that the band wants Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) to play the singer.

Drummer Roger Taylor was recently asked if the band has an actor in mind, when he teased that his initials are B.W. When asked to confirm if this mystery actor is in fact Ben Whishaw, Roger Taylor had this to say.

"Well, we hope so."

It isn't known if there is an offer out to Ben Whishaw or if the actor is even interested in the role. Guitarist Brian May also spoke about why Sacha Baron Cohen ultimately wasn't the right fit to play the iconic singer.

"We [the band] felt that his presence in the movie would be very distracting. And we thought there has to be no distraction in the Freddie movie. You have to really suspend that disbelief. The man who plays Freddie -- you have to really believe is Freddie. And we didn't feel that could really happen with Sacha."

We reported in September that Daniel Radcliffe was being eyed for the role, although we haven't heard anything further about his involvement since then. Peter Morgan wrote the script, which chronicles the singer's life leading up to Queen's legendary performance at the Live Aid concert in 1985. No director is attached at this time.
