Quentin Tarantino is one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the history of Hollywood, responsible for some of the most iconic movies to release in the last 30 years. Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, the Kill Bill franchise, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are just a few films credited to Tarantino, with blockbuster sales and favorable ratings following the movies. It's hard to believe the director has only helmed nine movies (counting Kill Bill as one entire film) through his career so far. Unfortunately, Tarantino is sticking to his word regarding his 10th film, which he's said will be his last.

During an interview with CNN's Chris Wallace, the 59-year-old filmmaker reveals why he plans to stop directing after his next movie. As it turns out, Tarantino is already feeling "out of touch" with the current films released today.

"Thank you. Well, it's... I've been doing it for a long time. I've been doing it for 30 years, and it's, it's time to wrap up the show. Like I said I'm an entertainer. I want to leave you wanting more you know ,and not just work and I don't want to work to diminishing returns. I don't want to be... one, I don't want to become this old man who's out of touch, when already I'm feeling a bit like an old man out of touch when it comes to the current movies that are out right now. And that's what happens."

Of course, Tarantino has still seen recent success with his latest outing, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The film, starring frequent collaborator Brad Pitt alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie, won 2 Oscars, including Best Supporting Actor from Pitt. The movie also succeeded at the box office, bringing in $374 million against a $90 million budget. So although Tarantino may feel out of touch with today's audience, the director has proven he can still hang around a crowded film industry.

There's no secret that comic book movies, particularly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Universe, reign supreme at the box office. Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are a few films that simply can't be beaten by original movies regarding opening weekend sales. Tarantino recognizes the landscape and says it will be a while until he's ready to unveil his next project.

"No, I don't at all, because I'm also not in a giant hurry to make my last movie either," Tarantino said when asked if he had an idea for his 10th film. "Right now, I don't even know what a movie is. Is that something that plays on Netflix? Is that something that plays on Amazon, and people watch it on their couch with their wife or their husband?" he asks.

Tarantino recently discussed the current era of Hollywood movies, saying, "I do feel that '80s cinema is, along with the '50s, the worst era in Hollywood history. Matched only by now, matched only by the current era!" Clearly, Tarantino isn't a fan of movie-making today, and the director will take his time with his next project.

As for the details of his 10th film? It's anyone's guess, though a Kill Bill 3 featuring Uma Thurman's daughter, Maya Hawke, could certainly be the direction Tarantino takes. Fans will have to wait and see what the director decides to work on next, though audiences can be sure it will be yet another blockbuster hit in Tarantino's collection.
