The upcoming biographical comedy is helmed by Eric Appel, based on a screenplay he co-wrote with the film's subject, "Weird Al" Yankovic. MovieWeb can share the first details surrounding the plot:

Daniel Radcliffe is "Weird Al" Yankovic in the unexaggerated true story about the greatest musician of our time. From a conventional upbringing where playing the accordion was a sin, Al rebelled and made his dream of changing the words to world renowned songs come true. An instant success and sex symbol, Al lives an excessive lifestyle and pursues an infamous romance that nearly destroys him. With Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, and an A-list cast of thousands their agents won't let us reveal.

The Roku Channel will be going for an all-out, no-holds-barred portrayal of "Weird Al," which they hope to fit in the 108-minute runtime. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story will be released sometime this fall 2022.

Rounding out the cast are Spencer Treat Clark, Thomas Lennon, Toby Huss, James Preston Rogers, and David Bloom.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is the first original for The Roku Channel that bolsters such a large budget and could be significant for the service that is trying to attract users. The shoot was incredibly short, with Radcliffe finishing his scenes in just 16 days and the entire filming period lasting a mere 18 days.
