Rachel McAdams is in negotiations to replace Reese Witherspoon in Passengers. We reported in May that Reese Witherspoon was in talks to star alongside Keanu Reeves, but she was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

The story centers on Keanu Reeves's character, one of thousands who set off on an 120-year interstellar voyage to a new planet. However, the man wakes up 90 years ahead of schedule, with only androids for companionship. He decides to wake up a beautiful female journalist named Aurora (Rachel McAdams), and as they begin to fall in love, they also discover a malfunction on the ship that could threaten their lives.

Brian Kirk is making his feature directorial debut, after working on hit TV shows such as Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. The screenplay was written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus), with Wayfare Entertainment producing and providing the financing. It isn't known when production may begin.

Rachel McAdams most recently starred in Passion, and she will next be seen in the time-travelling romance About Time. She recently wrapped Every Thing Will Be Fine and is currently shooting the Untitled Cameron Crowe Project.
