Not to be confused with Mario Van Peebles' masterpiece of the same name, Solo is a dark drama with comedic elements from executive producers Ted Hope and Anne Carey of This Is That Productions. According to The Hollywood Reporter, acclaimed writer-director Ramin Bahrani is the man behind the project.

The film will revolve around the friendship between Solo, a Senegalese cab driver, and William, a cranky senior citizen. Red West, of Elvis Presley's "Memphis Mafia", will play William, marking his first-ever starring role in a film.

This true story came from a chance meeting between Solo and William, when William offered the cab driver $1000 to drive him into the mountains so he could jump to his death. Solo befriended William, hoping to change the old man's mind about the jump.

The film is set to start shooting September 19th for five weeks in Winston-Salem, N.C.
