The next big project for rapper and actor 50 Cent will not come in the form of a song or movie but an upcoming investigative series, Hip Hop Homicides, which will premiere November 3 at 9 P.M. ET/PT on WEtv. According to HipHopDX, the show is being billed as an investigative series produced by 50 Cent and Mona Scott-Young. The show will be hosted by former TMZ personality and journalist Van Lathan and will showcase the evidence, highlight eyewitness testimonies, and analyze conspiracy theories. In the newly released teaser for the upcoming series, Lathan says:

“As of 2022, there have been a staggering number of rappers who have been murdered. And more than half of those cases are unsolved. I’m your host, Van Lathan, and together with executive producer 50 Cent, we’re here to bring these cases into the light.”

Fifty, who has attained entertainment industry prominence for his production of the blockbuster series Power and BMF, explained in a statement obtained by HipHopDX why he created the series.

G-Unit Film and Television has thrived by telling real stories. As I continue to grow my current slate, premium non-scripted programming will be a major focus. Hip-hop loves things that are damaged. This series will shed light on the artists that didn’t make it through the struggle.”

According to a release about the show, Hip Hop Homicides will set itself apart from your average true-crime procedural by providing an added layer to consider – a big-picture look at the epidemic of violence in hip hop.

Each Episode of Hip-Hop Homicides Will Center on One Unsolved Murder Case

As the trailer plays, a montage that includes XXXTENTACION, Mo3, Pop Smoke and King Von flickers on the screen. The trailer further promises to bring "exclusive eyewitnesses" and the series will also feature one-on-one interviews with artists, such as French Montana, Juvenile, Mannie Fresh, Vic Mensa and more. Kayla B, King Von's sister, is also among those who are interviewed for the WEtv show. Upon watching the trailer, one Instagram user wrote:

“I'm looking forward to watching this. This series is very much needed today.”

Another person wrote:

“Can't wait to see the Soulja Slim and Magnolia Shorty episodes. That New Orleans legends. Their story needs to be told to the world."

The first episode of the series will focus on Pop Smoke, who was shot and killed in February 2020 in what was described as a "robbery gone wrong." Another example of this tragic saga was the recent murder of Philadelphia rapper PnB Rock who was killed while dining at Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles with his girlfriend in South Los Angeles on September 12, 2022.
