eOne's Dungeons & Dragons live-action series has just taken a big step forward. Per Variety, Red Notice helmer Rawson Marshall Thurber has just signed on to creatively oversee the project, which will entail writing and directing the pilot script. Thurber will also serve as an executive producer for the series, which is based on the popular fantasy role-playing game published by Hasbro's Wizards of the Coast.Thurber said in a follow-up tweet about the news, "So deeply thrilled about this. Grew up playing the pnp version (lvl 13 lawful good paladin, holla!), enjoyed the heck outta @DDOUnlimited — learned to tell stories through (always) being the DM. Boyhood dreams do come true, ya’ll. Can’t wait to get cracking."

This hour-long series is one of many projects that will tie into an overall Dungeons & Dragons TV universe. It also follows Paramount recently finishing production on a Dungeons & Dragons live-action movie from Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. That movie stars an A-list ensemble cast which includes Regé-Jean Page, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant, Sophia Lillis, Justice Smith, Daisy Head, and Chloe Coleman.

Thurber is best known for writing, directing, and producing the hit Netflix movie Red Notice. Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds, the movie became the most-watched film in Netflix history when it was released in 2021. Thurber also wrote and directed Central Intelligence and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and served as director on We're the Millers. He has also reportedly entered early development on two sequels to Red Notice, ensuring that his schedule will be pretty packed for some time to come.

”If we were to make a sequel, the only responsible thing would be to make two and three back-to-back. It’s such a big production, and if you can mount it one time, it will be better for everyone. Including for my mental health," Thurber previously told THR, noting his intentions to make the sequels great regardless of the budget he's given. ”It makes no difference to me whether it’s the most expensive or the least expensive. If I’m making a movie that has a $1 million budget or a $100 million budget, I sweat it the same amount. Because every time somebody puts money up for art, they expect a hit. So every time you step up to the plate, you’re 0-for-0.”

It has since been reported that Red Notice 2 & 3 are now in early development at Netflix with Thurber currently writing the screenplays. It's not clear when those movies might be released, but you can watch the original Red Notice streaming on Netflix.
