Raymond De Felitta has signed on to direct the indie drama, Street of Dreams.

Robert Towne has written the script that's based on the true story of Japanese-American gangster Montana Joe. According to Variety, the film will explore the isolation and oppression of Japanese immigrants in the California valley farm communities during the Depression, the internment of Japanese Americans during the 1940s, their role in the U.S. military during WWII, as well as the Japanese gambling culture.

Japan's Kinema Motion Pictures is fully financing Street of Dreams

which is set to be shot in Los Angeles later this year; no release is scheduled.
