A small screen star of the 70s and 80s has just passed away. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ricardo Montalban, star of the hit series Fantasy Island, has died early Wednesday morning at the age of 88.

The news was announced by Los Angeles City Councilman Eric Garcetti, who represents the Los Angeles district Montalban lived in, at a city council meeting this morning. The cause of death was not announced as of yet.

Montalban first arrived in Hollywood in 1946, starring in such MGM musicals as Fiesta with Esther Williams, On An Island With You and Neptune's Daughter. He would be known worldwide years later with his role as the eccentric Mr. Roarke on the hit ABC series Fantasy Island. The series aired from 1978 to 1984 and still appears in reruns to this day.
