Rick and Morty is back with another season, as the show begins to come out more often than every two years. The most recent trailer for season 6 is getting everyone psyched for more of Space Beth and Summer to “do a Die Hard.”

Where most series would have stopped and started recycling old plotlines and character arcs, Rick and Morty has continued to grow at an incredible rate. Instead of getting bogged down with maintaining the single archetype that a show is typically expected to live in, Rick and Morty has had characters develop and roles change, showing us that the only thing certain about the show is the science fiction genre.

Fans are ravenously eating up the new trailer with theories and fun speculation. Strange things are afoot in the world of Rick and Morty, and somehow in season 6, they keep getting stranger. Just when we thought the action couldn’t escalate any higher, we see Rick riding a police car with a shotgun, Summer with Wolverine claws, and Jerry in Morty’s clothes. Your expectations are about to get shattered by the sound of "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath.

Doing a Die Hard

The last season left everyone astounded, not only when it separated Rick and Morty for what seemed like a seriously unknowable amount of time, but also when the huge storyline of Evil President Morty came to a head in the series conclusion. This new trailer launches us into season 6 with an amazing series of cuts from what looks like an even riskier situation. We thought escaping an entire multiverse was the farthest you could go, but it seems we were wrong.

Early in the trailer, Rick plays his card of escaping his current universe and moving to another where he can take the place of a recently deceased version of himself. But this time, he does it with the whole Smith family. It also looks like everyone is being hunted by one group of aliens or another. When Rick tells Summer to “do a Die Hard, it’s when Rick and Morty are playing everyone’s favorite arcade game: Roy.

If this episode is going to be anything like the actual Die Hard, it’s likely that Summer has just found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. But why won’t Rick and Morty get out of Roy? Is it really just that fun of a game? It could be the case that Morty dove a little too deep into Roy, and now Rick has to try to get him out. Whatever the case may be, defeating a small group of alien terrorists by climbing through air ducts is an excellent opportunity for Summer to grow as a person.

After a couple of cool shots of Summer with Claws and Morty inside the Smith family car being attacked by a robot made out of an office chair, Rick grabs Jerry and uses him as a human shield to escape into a nearby vent. It looks like the people attacking them are wearing suits. Could there be another conflict between Rick and the President of the United States, AKA Keith David?

After this, we get our first look at Space Beth coming on the scene. Both times she’s running away with the Smith family, but once it’s in a car and the other time it’s in a spaceship. If Rick isn’t being hunted this season, then it looks like Beth’s Blade Runner clone (whichever Beth that might be) will cause some trouble.

Next, we get a look at Jerry getting scanned while wearing Morty’s clothes, like literally Morty’s clothes. They’re not clothes that look like Morty’s but fit Jerry. It looks like they pulled a shirt and shorts straight out of Morty’s closet and jammed Jerry into them. There’s a theory that they might have promoted Jerry to Morty status to try and educate him. It sounds like something Rick and Morty might do, much to Rick’s dismay. Or they could have just blasted his clothes off, and this is the only thing Jerry could find. Either way, it sounds like a great way to embarrass Jerry and give everyone a fun episode along the way.

Justin Roiland is certain season 6 will be incredible. He had some worries about season 5 due to the death of line producer J. Michael Mendel. But now it seems the crew is back on top of things, and Roiland appears confident that they have created an excellent season this time around. The first episode of season 6 will premiere on Adult Swim on September 4, 2022. Until then, we will just have to hold on to our underpants and wait for more Rick and Morty content.
