Adult Swim has done us all a favor and given us a little something to help satiate our appetites for two things that we are all impatiently awaiting the arrival of; Rick and Morty Season 3 and Alien: Covenant. In a brand new, brilliant bit of cross-promotion, Rick and Morty are on a new adventure that takes them to the world of Alien. And it works about as brilliantly as one might suspect. We now want much more of this in the future.

Adult Swim recently released the short, which is actually just some sponsored content by Fox in order to promote Alien: Covenant. Either way, we'll take it. Basically, Rick and Morty are out in space on one of their more aimless adventures when the receive a distress signal. Because Morty insists they go and help, Rick then flies the ship to the source of the signal, which just so happens to be a very familiar looking ship, to those who know the Alien franchise. The pair then winds up investigating one of the Engineer's ships. Hilarity ensues.

In the case of both Rick and Morty and Alien, fans have been impatiently awaiting the arrival of new content from both universes. Not all that long ago, Adult Swim finally released the first, long-awaited episode from Rick and Morty season 3, which only made fans more eager for the arrival of new episodes. While the network hasn't yet announced a specific premiere date, they have finally said that Rick and Morty season 3 is set to debut this summer, so the wait is almost over. Prior to the release of the season 3 premiere, it had been nearly two years since new episodes of Rick and Morty aired, so clips like this are very welcome.

As far as Alien goes, fans have arguably been waiting thirty years to see a good movie in the franchise. Ridley Scott returned to the series in 2012 for Prometheus, but that wasn't really the Alien movie many fans wanted it to be, despite the fact that it has found a fan base in the years since its release. However, Alien: Covenant is very much an Alien movie and, despite some divisiveness among critics, the early word on the movie has been more positive than negative. And there are definitely Xenomorphs and Facehuggers in it, which is already a one up on Prometheus.

Maybe Fox and Cartoon Network can work out a tricky licensing deal to allow for Dan Harmon's Rick and Morty to have a full Alien crossover episode in the future? We can only dream. Or maybe that is something that can be explored further in the comics. After seeing the short, you'll probably want more of it. Be on the lookout for Rick and Morty season this summer, as well as Alien: Covenant, which is set for release May 19. You can check out the Rick and Morty/Alien: Covenant crossover for yourself below.
