Ricky Gervais has signed on for Night at the Museum 3, reprising his role as Dr. McPhee from Night at the Museum and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.

Ben Stiller is returning as museum security guard Larry Daley, with Robin Williams coming back as Teddy Roosevelt. We reported last month that Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens is playing the living mannequin Sir Lancelot of the Roundtable. It isn't known yet if other franchise mainstays such as Amy Adams, Owen Wilson or Hank Azaria are coming back for the sequel.

Shawn Levy is directing from a screenplay by Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, David Guion and Michael Handelman. We reported in September that production is scheduled to begin this coming February in Vancouver and London. The story will be set in London, although no plot specifics have been revealed.

Ricky Gervais will next be seen in Muppets Most Wanted.
