Emmy-nominated House of Cards star Kate Mara has been offered a role in director Ridley Scott's The Martian.
We reported earlier this month that Jessica Chastain and Kristen Wiig are in early talks for the female lead roles in this sci-fi drama, but it isn't known if their deals have closed. It isn't known if Kate Mara has been offered a different part, or if she is vying for one of these same lead roles.
Matt Damon is starring as an American astronaut who becomes stranded on Mars, as he tries to find a way back home to Earth. No details have been given for any of the female roles at this time.
Ridley Scott is directing from a screenplay by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods), which is adapted from Andy Weir's book of the same name, which started off as a highly-successful e-book before Crown published the novel in 2013. We reported in June that production may start sometime this fall, but the shooting schedule still hasn't been confirmed yet.
Kate Mara recently wrapped production on The Fantastic Four reboot, where she plays Sue Storm, a.k.a. The Invisible Girl. She most recently starred in the sci-fi thriller Transcendence alongside Johnny Depp, and, earlier this month, she also signed on to star in Man Down with Shia LaBeouf and Gary Oldman.
