Ridley Scott has decided to direct an epic biopic about the Gucci family dynasty. According to Variety, the film is being produced by Giannina Facio through Fox 2000.
Charles Randolph will write the script once the writers' strike comes to an end. The film is set to revolve around the wild and glamourous Gucci family through the 70s and 80s. During this time, their shops sold over $500 million worth of product annually.
The main plotline will focus on Maurizio Gucci, the grandson that won a bloody power struggle to run the family business. The project will chronicle his rise to success and his 1995 assassination in Milan.
Scott is currently in Morocco directing Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe in Body of Lies. Then, in March, he will begin shooting the Russell Crow Robin Hood riff Nottingham. The Gucci movie would come after these two films are completed.
