Rip Torn, star of Men in Black and The Larry Sanders Show, has died. The veteran actor's publicist confirmed Torn passed away peacefully in his Lakeville, Connecticut home on Tuesday. By his side at the time of his passing were his wife, Stardust Memories actress Amy Wright, and his daughters, Katie and Angelica. At this time, Torn's exact cause of death has not yet been specified. He was 88 years old.

Elmore Rual Torn Jr., known professionally as Rip Torn, was born in 1931 in the town of Temple, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas, he served in the Military Police in the United States Army. Torn later moved to Hollywood to pursue an acting career, making his movie debut in the 1956 movie Baby Doll. His first breakout role was as in the 1961 Biblical epic King of Kings as Judas, the man who betrays Jesus Christ. Movie and TV roles began rolling in quickly soon after, and a legendary career in Hollywood was born.

No matter where he turned up, Torn had a knack for making every one of this various roles extremely memorable and very entertaining. On the TV side of things, one of Torn's most well-known roles is as Artie in the '90s comedy series The Larry Sanders Show.
