The Rise of Skywalker is half a year away. That's not an extremely long wait, though it is being reported today that reshoots are continuing on at Pinewood Studios. The surprising thing about these reshoots is that they won't wrap until this September. Which only gives the production three months to finish the final product and get it in theaters just in time for Christmas.

Not much is known about the Star Wars 9 story just yet. So it's hard to say how significant these reshoots are. They're not out of the ordinary by any stretch, and have been worked into the production schedule since the start. The trailer tells us that Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewbacca and C-3PO will be on a mission that includes locating a piece of the destroyed Death Star. Many believed it is the Second Death Star from Return of the Jedi, but there have been recent reports that this is actually debris from the first Death Star that Luke Skywalker destroyed in 1977's A New Hope.

And speaking of that climactic dogfight between TIE Fighter and X-Wing that brought the first ever Star Wars movie to a close, The Rise of Skywalker reshoots involve more Starfighter pilots and the X-Wing. What exactly they are doing, or what mission they are carrying out has not been revealed.

Director and co-writer J.J. Abrams is back at Pinewood Studios as we speak, shooting more footage of the X-Wing starfighters in action. The extended shoot has been taking place at Black Park, according to sources. And the X-Wing scenes are expected to wrap soon. No cast members have been confirmed for these reshoots. Sources close to the production have stated that Black Park management has a certain section of the park blocked off with restrictions in place until the end of the month.

Though it is believed that the entirety of the reshoots won't wrap until sometime in September. Last October, J.J. Abrams was reportedly shooting scenes with a new orange-colored X-Wing that is believed to be Poe Dameron's new ship. His black X-Wing was destroyed in The Last Jedi, so this makes sense. Though it isn't known if these reshoots are being done with this new orange X-Wing or if Oscar Isaac is involved with these pick-up shots.

Recently, some concept art pieces leaked from Lucasfilm. They don't provide many spoilers, but they do hint at the new locations and environments our core cast of characters will be visiting this time out. One location being teased is a Castle located in what looks to be a volcano. Many believe this could be a return to Darth Vader's castle on Mustafar, which was seen in Rogue One. It has long been rumored that Kylo Ren will be visiting his grandfather's old stomping grounds. There are also recent rumors that Rey and Kylo will fight inside what is described as a "creepy monastery type place." It is hear that an ape-like creature with very fury hands repairs Supreme Leader Ren's helmet. We do know from the trailer that whoever glued Kylo's helmet back together does have very hairy hand.

There is no further information about the reshoots at this time. Or if they will involve anything outside of the X-Wing fighter pilots. This news originated at Making Star Wars along with concept art images that you can see below.
