We've got some new Star Wars 9 images to bring your way. Given that the movie is less than a month away from hitting theaters, the marketing machine at Lucasfilm is ramping up in a big way. That means we're seeing lots of TV spots, hearing the cast and filmmakers speak a lot more and, in this case, seeing some stills from the highly-anticipated finale to this sequel trilogy.
First up, we've got a look at the mysterious Sith Troopers. We've seen a wide variety of stormtroopers over the years, many of which will be appearing in Episode IX, but this is something very new. They have a deep, crimson red color to their suits, much like Snoke's Praetorian Guards. The image sees a group of them marching together heading to an unknown destination. As for how they'll factor into the story? That remains to be seen.
Moving on, we've got a shot of Daisy Ridley's Rey, John Boyega's Finn and Oscar Isaac's Poe gathered together, with C-3PO hanging out in the background looking a bit startled. Both Finn and Poe have their blasters drawn, with Rey igniting her lightsaber. What could the three of them possibly be staring down that has them so worked up? Speaking of Finn, we've also got a new shot of him with Naomi Ackie's mysterious Resistance ally Jannah. Not much has been revealed about her so far, but Ackie had this to say.
"Jannah's story links her up with the characters in a really interesting way. She has her own backstory, which makes her very invested in the fight. She has this fierce warrior nature, but a soft centre. There's a part of her that is seeking connection with people, trying to build a family."
Lastly, we've got a brand new look at Zorii Bliss in The Rise of Skywalker, as portrayed by Keri Russell. In this show, we get a great look at the character in her burgundy red suit with gold armor. Zorii's blaster is drawn in this shot. Again, it's not clear what she's aiming at, but she's unhappy with something she's seeing. As for how director J.J. Abrams cooked up this character's look? Here's what Russell had to say about it.
"There was this female character when J.J. was young, I think it was in Speed Racer or something. She rode a motorbike and had this helmet. He goes, 'I could never see her face and I was always obsessed with what she looked like.' That was the genesis of this character, because he always wanted to know who she was."
We know that Zorii Bliss, who we got a better look at in the recent Star Wars 9 character posters is an old friend of Poe's. Beyond that, not too much else has been revealed. As is often the case, both Lucasfilm and J.J. Abrams are playing this one very close to the chest. All will be revealed soon enough though, as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to hit theaters on December 20. Be sure to check out the new photos from Empire for yourself.
