Could Obi-Wan Kenobi have a place in The Rise of Skywalker? A new fan theory believes that the Jedi master will, and lays out how it could possibly happen. J.J. Abrams is back to the Star Wars franchise this time around to close out the Skywalker saga and Obi-Wan seems like a very wise decision to include, if only for a small cameo, to properly end the storyline that started more than 40 years ago now.

There has been a lot of talk about Obi-Wan Kenobi over the past few years and many fans want Ewan McGregor to return to the role in any capacity. He has been rumored to appear in the new trilogy since The Force Awakens, but The Rise of Skywalker seems like the most obvious choice. As for how Obi-Wan could come back, the Force Ghost routine is the easiest route, though according to a new fan theory, he could show up in a Holocron to train Rey in the ways of the Jedi. You can read the basis for this claim below.

"I was thinking to an episode of Rebels where Ahsoka and Ezra are watching an Anakin technique tutorial with a Holocron. And I was thinking about in the Canon comics where it was mentioned that Kenobi had done something similar for Luke to learn and had left recordings in his cabin."

This could be very easy to achieve and it would make for a meaningful and non-intrusive return of Obi-Wan in The Rise of Skywalker. There's already the return of more than one classic Star Wars character, but Obi-Wan seems logical, especially with Luke returning as a Force Ghost and Emperor Palpatine showing up again. However, this is just a rumor for the time being and Ewan McGregor has denied having anything to do with the franchise in its current incarnation.

There have been rumors of multiple Force Ghosts showing up in The Rise of Skywalker for quite a while now, so we'll just have to wait and see. Before production began on the upcoming movie, there were rumors that Ewan McGregor was going to be involved, but they have yet to be proven to be correct. Fans have been waiting for updates on the character ever since the long-talked about Obi-Wan Kenobi movie hit the backburner.

While the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie might not be happening, there are further rumors that Disney+ is cooking up a live-action series. Ewan McGregor will reportedly star in said show and a new report has just surfaced about Darth Maul showing up in the show. While this all sounds exciting, it has not been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm and the same can be said about The Rise of Skywalker. However, if the character is going to show up in the upcoming movie, it will more than likely be kept under wraps until the final installment hits theaters later this year. The Rise of Skywalker and Obi-Wan theory originated from Reddit.
