Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal has shared the first look at the upcoming remake of cult classic action flick, Road House. Sharing a behind-the-scenes image from the first day of filming on his official Instagram account, the actor looks ready to recite the three rules of cooling: One, expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. And three, be nice.

“I’ve wanted to work with the ridiculously talented Doug Liman for years. Day 1. Roadhouse,” Gyllenhaal said in a caption alongside the image, which shows him looking deliriously happy to finally be working alongside Edge of Tomorrow and The Bourne Identity filmmaker Doug Liman, as well as stepping into the role that the late, great Patrick Swayze made so iconic all those years ago.

Released in 1989, Road House follows Swayze as James Dalton, a cooler who begins working at a newly refurbished roadside bar where his job is to kick out any ne'er-do-wells. And not just kick, but also punch, headbutt and everything else in between. While protecting the bar, Dalton soon finds himself protecting the small town in Missouri from a corrupt businessman. Using kicks and punches, of course.

Road House has since garnered a cult following thanks to its B-movie happenings and a typically charismatic central performance from Patrick Swayze. So, there is a lot of pressure on the upcoming remake.

The Road House remake will take major inspiration from the treasured original, while making a few changes along the way. Jake Gyllenhaal will star as Dalton, who this time is a former UFC fighter, and takes a job as a bouncer at a bar in the Florida Keys. Much like his 80s predecessor, Dalton "soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise," the official logline for Road House reads.

“Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie," Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke says of the remake.

“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy,” Doug Liman adds. “And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role."

The Road House remake finds Jake Gyllenhaal leading a cast that includes Billy Magnussen (The Many Saints of Newark), Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League of Their Own), Lukas Gage (Euphoria), Hannah Love Lanier (The Tiny Mighty Club), Travis Van Winkle (You), B.K. Cannon (Why Women Kill), Arturo Castro (The Terminal List), Dominique Columbus (Ray Donovan), Beau Knapp (The Lost Symbol), Bob Menery (Billions), and UFC champion Conor McGregor in his acting debut.

Directed by Doug Liman (American Made, Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Road House is written by Anthony Bagarozzi (The Nice Guys) and Charles Mondry (Doc Savage). The project is produced by Joel Silver via his Silver Pictures, with JJ Hook (6 Underground, The Lost City), Alison Winter (The Wall, Chaos Walking), and Aaron Auch (Orphan, The Losers) on board as executive producers.

The Road House remake does not yet have a release date, but will debut on Amazon Prime Video.
