Rob Lowe has signed on for a role in the Sony Pictures comedy Sex Tape. The casting news comes 25 years after the actor was embroiled in his own real-life sex tape controversy in 1988, where he was caught having sex with a 16-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman the night before the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta.

Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz star as a married couple who try to spice up their love life by making a sex tape. However, the next day, they can't seem to find the tape, causing them to go on a frantic journey to find the video before it ends up in the wrong hands. Rob Lowe plays the high-strung CEO of the Children's Toy Company, who inadvertently comes into possession of the tape that the young couple is trying to get back. Rob Corddry and Jack Black also star.

Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher) is directing from a screenplay by Kate Angelo (The Back-Up Plan). Escape Artists' Todd Black, Steve Tisch and Jason Blumenthal are producing, with shooting scheduled to begin sometime this fall.

Rob Lowe most recently starred in the HBO TV movie Behind the Candelabra, and he will next be seen in Season 6 of Parks and Recreation this fall.
