The reboot of The Munsters from director Rob Zombie now has its home. Previously, there had been rumors that the movie would be given a day-and-date release, and that was followed by additional rumors that Netflix was in talks to acquire the exclusive rights to the reboot. Zombie has confirmed that the latter is true with a post on Instagram announcing that The Munsters hits Netflix this fall where it will join Wednesday, a reboot of The Addams Family from director Tim Burton.

"This fall we are gonna spook-out like it’s 1964!" Zombie said on Instagram. "Yep, THE MUNSTERS and THE ADDAMS FAMILY are returning to the boob tube at the same time courtesy of Netflix. It’s been 58 years since this clash of the titans first happened. Perfect entertainment for your pumpkin carving party. Check out this wicked fall preview issue of TV Guide for the 64-65 season I found while cleaning. Wacky monster fans unite!"

Sharing the news on his own Instagram account, Grandpa actor Dan Roebuck added, "THIS IS SUCH GREAT NEWS! Rob Zombie has confirmed the greatest secret of all. The Munsters is going to be accessible to so many people on the same day. It’s going to play on Netflix and we are thrilled."

Rob Zombie is known for directing horror films that are a bit heavy on violence, gore, and foul language. That led to some concerns from longtime Munsters fans that this new reboot would reimagine the kooky monster family as much darker than its source material. However, it has since been revealed that The Munsters reboot is rated PG, a first for Zombie's career. This is because Zombie was intent on making the film as faithful as possible to the original series.

Recently, Zombie released a trailer for The Munsters that reveals that the movie is an origin story, telling the tale of how Herman and Lily first met. This would explain why Marilyn and Eddie are not present in the film, but they could potentially show up in the future if a sequel ever gets made. Original Eddie and Marilyn actors Butch Patrick and Pat Priest will be playing different roles in the reboot. Written and directed by Zombie, the film's main cast featured Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, and Dan Roebuck as Grandpa, aka The Count.

Other cast members include Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, the mad scientist; Jorge Garcia as Floop, his assistant; Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson as realtor Barbara Carr; Catherine Schell as gypsy Zoya Krupp; and Dee Wallace as the voice of Good Morning Transylvania. Characters featured in the original series, such as the horror host and Eddie's personal hero, Zombo, also appear in the movie.

The Munsters is coming to Netflix in September with an exact date yet to be announced.
