A new photo from the Budapest set of The Munsters, Rob Zombie's upcoming movie based on the classic television series, has just been posted to the filmmaker's Instagram account. In the image, all three of the film's lead stars - Jeff Daniel Phillips (Herman Munster), Sheri Moon Zombie (Lily), and Dan Roebuck (Grandpa) - are in front of the Munsters family home at 1313 Mockingbird Lane. All three are having the final touches applied to their makeup, presumably in preparation for their next scene as the beloved monster family. You can see the post below.

"It takes quite a team to keep these Munsters looking so fresh and camera ready from sunrise to sunset," Zombie says in the caption.

"The makeup crew and all technicians on the movie are spectacular. Thank you for sharing," Roebuck added in the comments, along with Phillips describing the experience as "fun times with my friends!"

We know that Phillips, Zombie, and Roebuck will be playing Herman, Lily, and Grandpa, but one big question remains about this new take on The Munsters. Namely, Zombie has not revealed who will be playing Eddie and Marilyn Munster, nor has he even confirmed that these characters will be included in the reboot. Their absence would certainly feel like a big part of The Munsters was missing in the new story, though it's possible Zombie has intentionally avoided revealing this information to maintain a sense of mystery throughout the film's production.

Zombie has previously revealed most, if not all, of the supporting cast. The film will also feature Richard Brake as the mad scientist, Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang; Jorge Garcia as Floop; Sylvester McCoy as Igor; Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp; and Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson as Barbara Carr. Many of these names had been rumored prior to their official reveals from Zombie, but there's been no word on who might be potentially playing Eddie and/or Marilyn.

The Munsters Will Be Rated PG, a First for Filmmaker Rob Zombie

When it was first announced that Rob Zombie would be rebooting The Munsters for Universal, there was speculation from fans that he would be putting a gritty, R-rated spin on the family-friendly monster family. His prior movies in the horror genre have always been pushing the envelope, some of them particularly filled with violence and foul language. It's just become an expectation with Zombie's horror movies at this point, and though The Munsters began as a PG sitcom, there was a certain assumption held by many that he'd up the ante for this reboot film as well.

That is not the case. Zombie intends to keep The Munsters in line with how it was originally. It has been officially rated PG for "macabre and suggestive material, scary images, and language." While a PG-rated movie will be a first for Zombie, it's still not all that surprising to see the film heading in this direction. Zombie has long been clear that he's perhaps the biggest fan of The Munsters, and every image we've seen from the set suggests that he's going for a very faithful adaptation.

The Munsters doesn't have a release date but is expected to have a day-and-date release in theaters and on Peacock in 2022.
