The news from the set of Iron Man 2 is coming at us fast and furious, with the latest news being that Robert Downey Jr.'s armor-clad superhero will be caught in a love triangle in this film, between his assistant Pepper Potts, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, and the Russian superspy the Black Widow, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson. Downey confirmed the news to MTV while doing publicity for The Soloist.

Fans of the first Iron Man will recall that there was a strong romantic connection between Downey's Tony Stark and Paltrow's Pepper Potts in the first film, although that romance remained unacted upon - with Potts even helping to send some one of Stark's earlier romantic conquests on her way the morning after. At the film's conclusion, however, it seemed like there was a greater possibility of a romance happening between the two, with Stark's new-found sense of responsibility.

Entering into, and complicating that relationship, will be Johansson's Black Widow. In the comics, there has been a romantic tie between the Russian spy and Tony Stark nearly since the beginning. How exactly the love triangle will work out in the film is unknown, but it will be a part of it. Asked whether or not he would be one leg of the triangle, Downey replied "Heck yeah. Wouldn't you?"

Iron Man 2, directed by Jon Favreau, will continue the tale of Tony Stark and his armored alter-ego as he continues his transformation from billionaire industrialist to super-hero. Robert Downey, Jr. will star as Tony Stark, with Gwynety Paltrow returning in the role of his assistant Pepper Potts. Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson also star. Iron Man 2 blasts into theatres May 7, 2010.
