Robert Downey Jr. has joined a new untitled musical for Warner Bros. that was created by the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning Next to Normal composing team of Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. Downey Jr. will produce the project with his wife Susan Downey through their Team Downey production banner.

The screenplay will center on two Broadway singer-songwriters who suddenly find themselves creatively and financially bankrupt when their latest big time musical is a flop. The duo decide to take a job as counselors at a theater camp where they become attached to some of the kids in attendance, and decide to launch their comeback.

The part will call for Robert Downey Jr. to sing and play the piano. Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey have tailored the part for the actor, who attended musical camp as a child.

There was no mention of a start date on the project.
