Robert Downey Jr. will lend his voice to the new DreamWorks Animation 3D adventure Mr. Peabody and Sherman, portraying the genius talking dog, Mr. Peabody.

The movie is based on characters from Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends, with Mr. Peabody and his pet boy Sherman using The WABAC Machine to travel through time and discover new things about historical figures. Rob Minkoff will direct from a script by Jeffrey Ventimilia and Joshua Sternin. Here's what Rob Minkoff had to say about Mr. Peabody:

Mr. Peabody is this genetic anomaly. He does have brothers and sisters, all of them non-speaking, no super-smart dogs. He's an outcast, but has overcome it by being so great at so many things."

The role of Sherman, who is described as being more naive than dim-witted, has not been cast yet. Mr. Peabody and Sherman is being planned for a 2014 release.
