With Robert Rodriguez off the project, it didn't take too long for another director to start circling a remake in the works. According to Entertainment Weekly, director Robert Luketic is working on developing the film.
Rodriguez had bowed out of the project that was set up at Universal because the studio wanted to make the film in Germany and Rodriguez wanted to shoot the film in Austin, TX, where he lives with his family. Now it seems that Luketic is working with the Dino De Laurentis company, which owns the rights to the original film, on setting up the film at another studio.
"It will be a big intergalactic adventure with a sexy twist," said one of the site's sources. Rose McGowan, Rodriguez's girlfriend, was previously attached to the title role that Jane Fonda made famous, but it isn't clear if new casting has started yet.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new developments surrounding this remake as soon as we have more information.
