Acting and filmmaking legend Robert Redford is in talks for a role in Marvel's Phase II sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The actor will portray a senior leader at the S.H.I.E.L.D. organization, although no further details were given.

There is speculation that Robert Redford's character may be popping up in future Phase II or Phase III movies, although that has not been confirmed yet. If a deal is finalized, it seems likely the actor will have the bulk of his scenes with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, who runs the clandestine organization.

Chris Evans reprises his Steve Rogers/Captain America role from Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel's The Avengers, with a story set in present day after Marvel's The Avengers. There was an unconfirmed report last month that revealed there may be a flashback sequence involving Captain America: The First Avenger star Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It isn't known when production will get under way.

Robert Redford will next be seen in The Company You Keep, opening in theaters April 5.
