On June 14th, we /robert-rodriguez-offered-to-direct-deadpool/reported that director Robert Rodriguez had been approached by 20th Century Fox to direct the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off Deadpool, which will star Ryan Reynolds in the title role. The Los Angeles Times stated today that negotiations have begun between Rodriguez and 20th Century Fox, and it is looking more likely that the acclaimed action auteur will take on the project after he finishes his upcoming sequel Spy Kids 4: Armageddon.

As of this time, there is no deal in place. Both sides are addressing key issues at the moment, but it is clear that talks have moved passed casual rumor and into the discussion stage. And that deal points are being worked out. There is no other new news besides this forthcoming information.

We will update you on this story as soon as a deal between Robert Rodriguez and 20th Century Fox is firmly in place.
