Darryl Littleton and Robert Townsend are gearing up to direct a documentary entitled Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy. According to Variety the film will be produced and released by CodeBlack Entertainment.

The ninety minute feature was inspired by Littleton's book Black Comedians on Black Comedy: How African-Americans Taught Us to Laugh. The film will include clips, reenactments, and social commentaries from leading black comedians.

Interviews have already taken place with such icons as D.L. Hughley, the Wayans brothers, Paul Mooney, Tommy Davison, Reynaldo Ray, Marla Gibbs, Eddie Griffin and Katt Williams, Cornel West, Michael Eric Dyson, Russell Simmons and Stanley Crouch.

The film began production on September 1st in Los Angeles and will continue through the month of October.
