Now that Taron Egerton has solidified his deal to play Robin Hood in Lionsgate's Robin Hood: Origins, the studio has found their Maid Marian. Dealine reports that Bridge of Spies star Eve Hewson has landed the Maid Marian role, with negotiations getting under way. The actress beat out over 100 others for the highly-coveted role, including contenders such as Gaite Jansen, Lucy Fry and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

The story, which was written by Joby Harold (Knights of the Round Table), offers a revisionist take on the beloved Robin Hood tale. The plot follows the title character, who returns home from fighting in The Crusades. He discovers that his beloved Sherwood Forest has become a den of corruption, leading him to form a band of merry outlaws to take back his homeland. Taron Egerton entered talks for the title role back in August, but his deal is now finalized.

Otto Bathurst is set to direct Robin Hood: Origins from Joby Harold's script. The German filmmaker is best known for directing the pilot episode of Peaky Blinders, and films such as Hustle and Five Days. Leonardo DiCaprio is producing with his Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson, alongside Safe House's Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell and Basil Iwanyk.

Production has been pushed back slightly, due to Taron Egerton's commitment to 20th Century Fox's Kingsman 2. We reported earlier this month that Lionsgate wanted to shoot Robin Hood: Origins in February, which would have caused a scheduling conflict for Kingsman 2. Now it seems the issue has been resolved, with the actor scheduled to shoot Kingsman 2 first, and then go right into production on Robin Hood: Origins next summer.

Eve Hewson plays Carol Donovan, the daughter of Tom Hanks' James Donovan in Bridge of Spies, which opens in theaters this weekend. She also stars as Nurse Lucy Elkins in Cinemax's hit series The Knick, which returns for its second season tomorrow night at 10 PM ET.
