Will Robin Wright return as Antiope in the new DCU from James Gunn and Peter Safran? Your guess is as good as hers, but if she gets that call, Wright is ready to return as the Amazonian general. Previously, Wright debuted as Antiope in the 2017 movie Wonder Woman alongside Gal Gadot as the titular crime-fighter. Wright would later join Gadot for the sequel, 2020's Wonder Woman 1984. It's unclear if director Patty Jenkins wanted to bring Wright back as Antiope for Wonder Woman 3, as the project was axed by Gunn and Safran upon their hiring at DC Studios before development could begin.

For her part, Wright has essentially already said goodbye to the role, as she had presumed that Wonder Woman 1984 was the end of that story. Even so, she also says she spoke with Jenkins about how much story potential there still was with the Amazonian characters that could possibly be explored in another film. That seems to have her sold on the Wonder Woman prequel series in the works for the DCU, dubbed Paradise Lost.

"I thought they were finishing with Wonder Woman 1984," Wright tells Yahoo! Entertainment in a new interview. "But Patty and I both agreed that the Amazon section was such a great part of that film. I was like, 'Why don't you write the Amazon movie?' Young girls want to see that — it's real female empowerment."

There's not a lot that's been revealed about Paradise Lost, but what's known is that it will be a prequel series set on Themyscira in the time before Diana, aka Wonder woman, was born. A cameo from Gadot is possible, albeit unlikely, if there are any flash-forward sequences that would tie the prequel to the Wonder Woman films. But it's also still unclear if the plan is for this series to directly tie into those movies, or if this will be a new Wonder Woman canon. If it acknowledges the Gadot films, Wright could very well play Antiope, and while she wonders if she's getting too old to reprise the role, she's still waiting by the phone for Gunn and Safran to give her a call.

"I loved playing an Amazon," Wright says. "I kinda feel like I was the leader of an Amazon tribe in my past life. I haven't received that call [about Paradise Lost] yet. Maybe I'm too old!"

There could also be some plans for Gadot's version of Wonder Woman in the DCU, but nothing is certain at this time. Gunn stoked rumors that he was bringing back Gadot by telling one fan on Twitter that he hadn't "booted" her from the DCU as the person suggested. However, Gunn has similarly said that he didn't "fire" Henry Cavill as Superman, as he never hired him to begin with - that was the previous Warner Bros. leadership. Neither Gunn nor Gadot have publicly stated for sure one way or the other at this time if that version of Wonder Woman will return in any future projects in the DCU.
