Catherine Zeta-Jones has joined the cast of Rock of Ages for director Adam Shankman and Warner Bros. The actress will play a primary villain, although it is a character that did not appear in the original stage musical by Chris D'Arienzo. Here's what Adam Shankman had to say about Catherine Zeta-Jones's character.

"It's a character that we only really came to in the last month. The character was invented to streamline the stories."

The director went on to describe the character as a mix between Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant. Here's what else he had to say about this villainous character.

"She is this hardcore, moral majority, arch-conservative who wants to shut down rock'n roll in the great city of Los Angeles."

Adam Shankman will direct Rock of Ages from a screenplay by the original musical's creator, Chris D'Arienzo. Production is scheduled to start on May 19 in Miami.
