Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Gonzalez are joining forces to produce Rodrigo Garcia’s upcoming drama Mother and Child. According to Variety, Garcia will be writing and directing the film himself.

The story will revolve around the intersecting lives of a 50-year-old woman, the daughter she gave up for adoption 35 years ago and a black woman looking to adopt a baby. Garcia stated, "Alejandro read a nearly finished draft and challenged me to finish it. It all takes place in the present, but it was difficult to write because it explores 30 years in the lives of these three women."

Casting is currently underway. The film will begin shooting this December in the Los Angeles area.
