At long last, Star Wars: Rogue One is here! For the last eight months or so, fans have been teased with tons of trailers, TV spots, rumors and everything in between in relation to this very first Star Wars standalone story, but now the movie is out and the word from both fans and critics has been very positive. A lot of that has do with Felicity Jones and her performance as Jyn Erso, and it turns out she was paid well for her work in the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Felicity Jones is somewhat surprisingly the highest-paid actor out of anyone in the cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The report comes from sources close to the movie who say that she "by far" got the biggest paycheck, which goes against the grain in Hollywood. There is a massive gender pay gap in the industry between men and their female co-stars, so it is impressive that Felicity Jones nabbed the biggest payday, but THR's source says it was pretty cut and dry.

"She knows her worth."

Felicity Jones's star power has been on the rise in recent years. She took part in a massive franchise as she played Felicia Hardy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and was probably looking at a bigger part in future installments before Part 3 was canned. But things really heated up after her performance in The Theory of Everything, for which she scored a Best Actress nomination at the Academy Awards. So, Disney decided they wanted her to lead the cast of Rogue One and they were willing to pay for it. Since this is such a huge movie, that is a really big deal.

In recent years, many actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and most recently Emmy Rossum have stood up and publically made stands to try and close the gender pay gap. According to the report, Felicity Jones was able to negotiate an impressive seven-figure upfront salary for her turn as Jyn Erso. Disney is making the biggest movies in Hollywood right now and Star Wars movies are the biggest of those big movies, so the fact that an actress as part of a big ensemble cast wound up being the highest-paid of the bunch is monumental and important.

Other members of the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story cast like Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn and Donnie Yen didn't even crack the mid-six-figure mark. Star Wars has been a progressive franchise in a lot of ways, but in an age when pay for actresses in Hollywood is such a big topic of discussion, this is one very major progression and one that could help other actresses in the future. With the money Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is going to make this weekend, Disney and Lucasfilm were probably more than happy to pay Felicity Jones for her work.
