Production got under way last month on Disney and LucasFilm's first Star Wars spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which takes place between Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. We've already seen the first set photos, which reveal a few actors playing Stormtroopers. Today, TMZ uncovered more photos that show some sort of massive spaceship crash, along with several dead Stormtroopers floating in shallow water. What could this all mean? We don't have a single clue, but we can spot a few of the main cast members in these images, including Felicity Jones.

The story will center on a group of Rebel Alliance soldiers who go on a mission to steal the Empire's plans for the original Death Star. Felicity Jones leads the cast that also includes Riz Ahmed, Sam Claflin, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn and Forest Whitaker. It isn't known how long production is expected to last, but LucasFilm and Disney have already announced a December 18, 2016 release date. The movie currently doesn't have any other movies opening against it at the box office next December.

There have also been several unconfirmed rumors that have been swirling around the set, most of which involve the identities of main characters. Felicity Jones, for instance, is rumored to be Boba Fett's daughter, while Diego Luna is rumored to be Biggs Darklighter. Mads Mikkelsen's signature on a fan's poster are leading some to believe he could be playing Galen Marek, a character from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game. It seems unlikely that we'll get confirmation on any of these characters' identities anytime soon, but we'll have to wait and see.

Gareth Edwards is directing from a script by Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta, based on a story created by veteran ILM visual effects supervisor John Knoll, who shares a long history with the Star Wars movies, dating back to the mid-1990se. Allison Shearmur (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Cinderella), John Knoll, Simon Emanuel (The Dark Knight Rises, Fast & Furious 6) and Jason McGatlin (Tintin, War of the Worlds) are executive producers. Kiri Hart and John Swartz (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) are co-producers.

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One hits theaters next December, between the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and writer-director Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII, arriving in May 2017. After that, LucasFilm will release Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo Movie in May 2018, and Star Wars: Episode IX sometime in 2019. While we wait for more details, photos and videos to arrive, check out the latest images, plus a brief video news report from TMZ.
