Earlier this month, fans finally got their first look at the new Star Wars spinoff Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. We know the story centers on a group of Rebel spies who steal plans for the Empire's dreaded Death Star. While a few story details were finally revealed in the teaser, there's still so much we don't know about this big screen adventure. Today, we got a huge revelation from star Mads Mikkelsen, who's character has yet to be announced and wasn't seen in the sneak peek. There will be potential SPOILERS below, so read on at your own risk.

We learned in the first trailer that Felicity Jones is playing a character named Jyn Erso, and almost immediately, speculation arose about whether or not this character could be the long-lost mother of Rey (Daisy Ridley) from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While those details have yet to be confirmed, Mads Mikkelsen appeared on Sky News, where he dropped quite the big bombshell in his TV interview. Take a look at what he had to say below.

"I read the script and it was very beautiful. Felicity [Jones] is playing this lovely, strong woman. I play her... father. That's too much, I'm sorry."

This certainly isn't the first time Mads Mikkelsen has revealed details about this highly-secretive movie. Back in September, the actor signed an autograph for a fan, revealing that his character's name is Galen. Many fans have speculated that he could be Galen Marek from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video game. This character was the secret apprentice to Darth Vader, who went on to become instrumental in the formation of the Rebel Alliance, after uniting several of the Empire's enemies.

Other reports have claimed that Mads Mikkelsen's character is a scientist working on the Geonosian Death Star project, solving several of the space station's key flaws. He is revered by the Empire, getting compared to Robert Oppenheimer, who helped design the atomic bomb and later felt remorse for the death and destruction he helped create. Mads Mikkelsen's character reportedly flees from the Empire, and tries to "make things right" by enlisting the help of his only daughter, who has now been confirmed by the actor to be Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso. It's worth noting that Jyn Erso is rumored to be trying to undo all of the devastation caused by her family, according to an earlier rumor.

It isn't known when LucasFilm plans on releasing another Rogue One trailer, but hopefully we'll get more info regarding Jyn Erso and Mads Mikkelsen's characters very soon. The Star Wars spinoff cast also includes Ben Mendelsohn, Alan Tudyk, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Jonathan Aris and Wen Jiang. Take a look at Mads Mikkelsen's video interview below, and stay tuned for more on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, hitting theaters December 16.
